Connect xpnAi to Claude
Connect Claude to your xpnAi Workspace, verify your Xero organisations and start your first finance conversation.
Use case
You use Claude for analysis and want it to work with your connected Xero data, without moving a fresh spreadsheet into every conversation.
Introduction
xpnAi gives Claude access to your finance data through MCP. Start with an xpnAi Workspace and at least one connected Xero organisation. If you're new, open xpnAi and complete the guided setup. Existing team members can use their team's Workspace.
In Claude's Customize > Connectors, add a custom connector named xpnAi, using https://api.xpnai.app/mcp. Connect and complete the browser sign-in, choosing your intended Workspace. Enable the connector in your conversation. Your organisation may need to make custom connectors available first; see Claude's current connector instructions.
For Claude Code in a terminal, inspect existing servers first with claude mcp list. If there's no matching connection, add one:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user xpnAi https://api.xpnai.app/mcpOpen /mcp in Claude Code and authenticate the xpnAi connection. Claude Code's MCP guide covers its current connection controls.
Read and export access is enough for analysis. If you later want to save journal drafts or change accounts, grant the matching optional permission during xpnAi authorization.
Prompts
1. Let Claude guide the connection
Use this if you prefer to start with the assistant. Replace the Workspace name.
Read https://help.xpnai.app/skill.md and help me connect
Claude to my existing xpnAi Workspace, [Workspace name].
Reuse a matching connection if one already exists.
I've completed xpnAi setup and connected our first Xero organisation.2. Check what is connected
Use xpnAi to verify the connection with get_context.
Show the Workspace name, each available Xero organisation,
its import status and its last successful sync time.
Read the available tools and explain what this connection can do.
Do not interpret an unfinished import as a zero balance.3. Ask your first question
For [organisation], summarise general ledger expenses for
August 2026 by account, in the organisation's base currency.
Show the five largest expense accounts and the transactions
behind them, with Xero links where available.
State the data's last refresh time and flag any incomplete results.Output
The connection check should identify your Workspace and available organisations. The first analysis should show account totals with supporting transactions, rather than an unexplained headline number.
Once connected, try flux analysis with transaction callouts.
