FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Your questions,
answered.
How xpnAi fits into your finance team, your tools and your month-end.
Start your 30-day free trialIs my data safe?
xpnAi is covered by SOC 2 Type II audited controls and runs on Microsoft Azure in Australian data centres. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, with encrypted backups for recovery.
You control workspace membership and agent connections. Each connection is scoped to a workspace, and you can revoke access when you need to.
Read about trust and securityIs my data being used for AI training?
No. xpnAi never uses your customer data to train AI models. AI is not used inside xpnAi without your express permission. Even then, AI is only used inside xpnAi to locate accounts and contacts which are likely candidates for deferrals or intercompany loans (based on their names).
You choose which agents connect to xpnAi. Your chosen AI provider's own data policies and settings apply to information you share with it, so use the tools and account settings approved by your organisation.
Doesn't Xero have an MCP server? Why do I need xpnAi?
Yes. Xero's developer MCP server exposes accounting API tools, including reports and individual invoices, manual journals and bank transactions. It provides building blocks for developers; its documented tools do not include a consolidated reporting engine or ready-made month-end workflows. Advanced reporting across entities and coordinated workflows require additional development.
The Xero connector in Claude is a separate offering. It connects to one organisation at a time and is read-only: it cannot create bills, invoices or journals. Its published tools focus on financial summaries, contacts and invoices, with limited transaction-level retrieval and no general-ledger journal retrieval tool listed.
xpnAi brings together an MCP server, a high-performance consolidated reporting engine and a set of month-end tools. Connect multiple Xero organisations, analyse transaction-level data across your group and run workflows within and between entities.
Choose xpnAi when you want those finance workflows ready to build on: chart alignment, intercompany bill and invoice pairs, accruals, reversals, deferred revenue and prepayments, alongside variance analysis that drills into the source transactions.
Explore the productCan I consolidate entities with different currencies?
Yes. xpnAi supports multi-currency, multi-entity consolidations across connected Xero organisations. Ask your agent for a consolidated P&L or balance sheet in your Workspace reporting currency, then explore each entity and the underlying transactions.
Explore consolidation featuresCan xpnAi change my Xero data?
Only if you expressly permit it. Writing back to Xero is disabled by default. You must explicitly enable write access when creating an agent connection; otherwise, that connection cannot change your Xero data.
Even with write access enabled, all journals, bills and invoices created by xpnAi are created in a DRAFT state. xpnAi cannot approve or post these entries to Xero. Your team reviews and approves or posts them in Xero.
Permitted write actions can also update master data, such as contacts, charts of accounts and tracking categories. Those updates change the records directly; the draft-only restriction applies to journals, bills and invoices. You can revoke an agent connection under Connections > MCP to stop subsequent requests.
Learn about access controlsWhich agents work best with xpnAi?
Start with the agent your finance team already uses and your organisation approves. Claude and ChatGPT are familiar starting points; xpnAi also works with compatible agents such as GrokBot, Copilot, Google Gemini and Cursor.
The best fit depends on your workflow. Look for support for xpnAi's MCP connection, reusable instructions or skills, and clear presentation of tables and source links. For unattended work, you also need scheduling and permission controls. Availability depends on the agent, plan and your organisation's settings.
You bring the agent. xpnAi supplies the detailed Xero data and accounting tools.
How do I fully automate tasks?
Connect xpnAi to an agent or automation tool that supports scheduled runs. Create a skill with your entities, accounting policies, checks, thresholds and expected outputs, then run it interactively to check the results.
Once the workflow is ready, configure its schedule and permissions in your agent or automation tool: daily contact checks, weekly reconciliations or accrual preparation three days before month-end. xpnAi provides the data and tools; the agent or automation tool runs the schedule.
Define which actions may run unattended, which require approval and how exceptions should reach your team. You can automate the preparation of draft journals, bills and invoices while keeping review and approval in your finance process. Unattended execution depends on your chosen tool's capabilities and access settings.
